Last month we wrote about what to wear to women’s networking. This month we look at how to create a professional wardrobe you can be proud of without breaking the bank.
- Invest in statement accessories
A statement piece of jewellery or accessory creates a talking point and will draw conversation towards you. These pieces don’t have to be expensive – it could be as simple as a brightly coloured bag from a high-street store. The beauty of investing in accessories over clothes is that you can keep your outfit simple with your accessory acting as the centre piece.
- Add key pieces
Consider adding a few key pieces which can form the base of many outfits. These pieces may be a little more expensive but if you look for good quality items, they’ll pay for themselves in the long run. Do your research and take your time to think about these purchases, then only commit once you feel comfortable. Consider items such as a blazer, a smart coat, trousers or a beautifully tailored shirt. For these key pieces we’d recommend investing in higher end stores or independent boutiques which sell good quality clothes.
- Keep it simple
With a bag you love, and a jacket that makes you feel great, you can keep keep the rest of your wardrobe simple. Depending on what you’ve already bought you could wear a low-cost all-black outfit for example, and let your accessories do the talking. Not only will you look stylish but you can take the pressure out of making another decision in the morning!
The most important thing to remember when dressing for any meeting or event is to just be yourself. Yes, you may need to smarten up a little to suit where you’re going but it’s not necessarily your outfit that’s going to win you a new client. Make sure you feel confident so you can let your personality and skills shine through.
If you’re looking to give networking a try, we’d love to welcome you to one of our events, we offer a relaxed atmosphere to give you the chance to meet women in the area running a hugely diverse range of businesses.
